I don’t have my sh!t together!
Today was the first day back from an incredible conference in Portland called the World Domination Summit. It’s a gathering of amazing people doing amazing things, and it makes you think that you, yes you, can do amazing things too!
But here’s the truth… although I believe I’m capable of doing amazing things if I try hard enough (I just wrote a book, so that’s tangible proof I’m capable of something), the reality is that I’m also capable of barely getting through the day without feeling like a complete idiot.
So, in the spirit of being completely honest, here’s today’s lunch.
I made porridge in the microwave, and as usual, I wasn’t paying attention, and it erupted. I wish I could say I cleaned it up and tried again but I didn’t. I ate it. I even used the microwave glass as a plate because I’m classy like that.
As I was shamefully eating, I was reminded of Marsha Shandur’s WDS talk just a few days before. She talked about how we always think that everyone else has their sh!t together and we are the only ones that don’t. This, of course, is completely false.
We all have something in our lives that we struggle with so even when you feel like you’re the only one who screws up… you’re not.
Own it, share it, and laugh about it because it’s these moments that remind us that we’re human. We want to see that we’re not the only one who zigs when everyone else seems to zag. We want to see ourselves in others. It’s these things that connect us.
